“It started one day when the Muslims were told
To get ready for an expedition,
They would journey afar in the fierce, fiery heat,
What a dangerous, difficult mission!”
A dangerous mission it is, but one strong and healthy man stays behind. Who is he? Why does he stay behind? And what will happen when everyone returns?

“Ka’b’s Big Decision” relates the true tale of Ka’b ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him), a companion who was strong and wealthy but who did not respond to the call for the expedition to Tabook.
The story leads the child through all too-familiar territory: “What should I do now that I’ve done something wrong?” “Maybe I can lie or make an excuse,” and through the shining example of Ka’b, teaches them the best way to solve such a moral dilemma.
The story has been brought to life with rhyming prose and attractive illustrations, enhancing the teaching of the seerah of the Prophet (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) and the ethical lessons of truth and honesty therein.

Review from islameducationalworkshops.co.uk :
I love using the ‘Tales from the Lives of the Companions’ series in my work with children, because they are genuinely ‘enriching’ in every sense. The visuals are bold and warm and invite the reader to a very special event, the stories are rolling and rhythmic with breath-taking twists and turns, and the content contains so many moral dilemmas with which children can develop their own purity of character insha Allah.
I was thrilled to hear of this second release from Education Enriched, because as a story-teller I find it hard to source Islamic stories of high quality – yet with ‘Ka’b’s Big Decision,’ RS Khan has done it again!
‘Ka’b’s Big Decision’ is a beautiful storybook. The story’s Islamic character-building potential is immense as the child follows Ka’b through an all-too-familiar scenario of having done something wrong and not knowing whether to lie or tell the truth.
This exquisite rendering of a Companion’s true story can teach us all the best way to respond.

After eagerly awaiting for the publication of this book, I finallym managed to get my hands on it. What really impresses me about this children’s story book is that R.S Khan has managed to capture a very deep and profound story of one of the Companions – Ka’b ibn Malik (may Allâh be pleased with him), and articulate it in a simple and beautiful manner for children to understand and take inspiration from.
The subtle use of poetic rhymes together with beautiful and simple images adds a very nice touch when reading it.
We need more books like these to teach and inspire our children.
– highly recommend this for your kids!

This books is amazing !Mashallah TabarAkkallah ! My kids loved the feel of the paper, the images and the colourful pages.
I love the fact that the grammar is correct .The fact that the story is about a Sahabi (which is very much needed in this day and age) told in a simplified manner for the kids to understand and also to implement the lessons is incredible.
Looking forward to the next book! Jazakumulahukheyr!

As a revert I’m still learning new things, this was the first time I’ve heard of Ka’b and was a nice introduction into his story. I got the book for my 3.5yr old son who loved the bright pictures, but the minute I played the audio book he was thoroughly impressed! I was able to do some chores for a short while, whilst he listened to the audio book and looked through pages independently. The audio also helped me, as I was unaware how to pronounce Ka’bs name (revert problems lol). I was so impressed, I bought a second copy as a gift! Ma sha Allah the Seerah series by Education Enriched is very beautifully written in a way for children to understand, the poetic rhyme captures the attention and keeps children focused on the story. I highly recommend this book and believe it was great value for money!

I forgot to add, that the audio book is a unique feature that would be highly beneficial for children with a visual impairment. Sometimes children want alone time to entertain their self, they don’t always want to sit with an adult and often children with an impairment feel proud to be independent and do things alone. This unique feature enables children with a visual impairment to benefit from the beautiful story writing style of the authoress. For an Islamic children’s education centre this would be a great tool to promote “valuing diversity” and will also be a good purchase for parents who have children with a visual impairment. The audio book feature is fantastic for parents who have English as a second language, it will enable them to practice their English reading skills by listening to the pronunciation of the words and will give them support when reading the book to their children. This is not to undermine the beauty of reading words from a page, or the importance of an adult reading to a child, or to downgrade the beauty of children reading words from books their self – but to highlight how truly beneficial this book is with its added features, making the story accessible to a large audience; rather than limiting it to those with good reading skills. If you work in a childcare setting, or have a child with visual impairment or need support with reading English, you will find the books audio feature meets your diverse needs.
